Tracking Fred: Tropical Storm Warning Issued for the Florida Keys Flooding concerns arise as a result of the wet weekend.
MIAMI – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Florida Keys as Tropical Depression Fred soaks Cuba and shows signs of strengthening. Forecasters predict heavy rain in other parts of Florida. A disorganized Fred was 315 miles east-southeast of Key West at 8 a.m. Friday, moving west-northwest at 10 mph. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, but the National Hurricane Center says those winds could increase and the system become a tropical storm again Friday (which requires winds of 39 mph or higher). While Broward and most of Miami-Dade counties are not under a tropical storm watch, rain is expected on Friday night and Saturday, and those counties are under a flood watch.
